The Los Angeles Angels locked up closer Huston Street, signing the right-hander to a two-year contract extension through 2017, plus a club option for 2018, the team announced on Wednesday.
Huston Street signs 2-year, $18 million contract extension with Angels

The contract is worth a guaranteed $18 million, which includes a $1 million buyout of the $10 million 2018 option, per Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times and Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. If the option is exercised, Street could earn $27 million over three years.
Street is making $7 million in the final season of a contract signed with the Padres in 2012. The Angels acquired the closer from San Diego in July 2014.
Street, who turns 32 in August, is 2-1 with a 3.29 ERA and 11 saves in 14 games this season for the Halos, with 15 strikeouts and five walks in 13⅔ innings. He has 286 saves in his 11-year career, averaging 28 saves and 59 strikeouts in 59 innings per year in the first 10 seasons of his career.
Since his major league debut in 2005, Street is one of four pitchers with at least 200 saves and 600 strikeouts, joining Jonathan Papelbon, Joe Nathan and Francisco Rodriguez.
Had Street opted for free agency, he would have been one of the most coveted relief pitchers on the market. This last offseason, the top two reliever contracts signed were by David Robertson ($46 million over four years with the White Sox) and Andrew Miller ($36 million over four years with the Yankees), so at $9 million per year for Street it seems the Angels got a bit of a discount.
