A slow start and a fourth-place standing in the National League East cost Mike Redmond his job. The Miami Marlins fired Redmond as manager and also dismissed bench coach Rob Leary on Sunday after getting swept by the Atlanta Braves at Marlins Park.
Marlins fire manager Mike Redmond

Miami is 16-22 and will end Sunday no better than five games out of first place in the division.
The club has been very streaky this season, losing 11 of their first 14 games. This was followed by winning nine of 10 games, but 10 losses in the last 14 contests, including getting swept at home, was the final straw for Redmond.
Redmond is the second MLB manager fired this season. The Milwaukee Brewers dismissed Ron Roenicke on May 3 after a 7-18 start.
Redmond was 155-207 (.428) in his three seasons as Marlins manager, including patching together 77 wins out of an injury-plagued club in 2014. But with expectations of playoff contention in Miami, realistic or not, Redmond only lasted six weeks in 2015.
Miami extended Redmond’s contract for two more years, through the 2017 season, at the end of 2014.
The last loss for Redmond came Sunday, nearly no-hit by Shelby Miller of the Braves, who settled for a two-hit shutout and a 6-0 win. The Marlins were outscored 16-6 by the Braves over the weekend in their three-game sweep.
The Marlins will announce a new manager on 11 a.m. ET on Monday, the eighth manager in 13 seasons under owner Jeffrey Loria.
