This isn’t how Dallas Baptist’s first ever NCAA regional host was supposed to start. Sure, there was plenty of skepticism about whether they could get past tournament regulars Oregon State and Texas, but surely they’d at least handle fourth-seeded VCU. Not so fast. After a disappointing 7-2 loss on the tournament’s opening day, the Patriots find themselves in the losers bracket.
NCAA Baseball Tournament 2015 scores and bracket: Dallas Baptist goes down, Louisiana-Lafayette storms back
Day 1 of the college baseball tourney had plenty of action, including a pair of host teams falling.

VCU -- one of just two No. 4s to upset a host team on Friday night -- jumped all over Joseph Shaw in the fifth inning, plating five runs to break open a previously scoreless game. Daane Berezo and Brett Hileman combined for six of the Rams’ 12 hits and three RBI.
It’s far from over for Dallas Baptist, who hope to avoid elimination on Saturday against Texas. But that will be close to a home game for the Longhorns, and even if Dallas Baptist does survive, they’ll likely have to get past a dangerous Oregon State team down the line.
Let’s take a look at some of the other scores from the first day of the NCAA Tournament.
San Diego State 4, UC Santa Barbara 3
The fact that UCSB was a soft No. 1 seed to begin with, plus San Diego State’s standing as perhaps the toughest No. 4 in the tournament equaled an upset that pretty much everybody saw coming. But man, was this one hell of a game. After the Aztecs jumped on Santa Barbara starter Dillon Tate for three early runs, the Gauchos answered back with one-spots in the second, third and fifth innings to tie it at 3.
With two outs in the eighth inning, SDSU dialed up the Benny “The Jet” Special for the go-ahead run.

— NCAA Baseball (@NCAACWS) May 30, 2015 Florida 19, Florida A&M 0
Just ... oh my. Nobody really thought the Gators would be tested by Florida A&M, who came in with a .500 record and an RPI rank of 231. But 19-0? Every starter in the Florida lineup save one contributed to their 17 hits, and J.J. Schwartz went 4-for-5 with 5 RBI and a long ball. More importantly, Florida got to rest its pitching and is in prime position heading into a winners bracket face-off with South Florida.
And of course this comes after the Gators ran through the SEC Tourney for the conference title. Sure, Friday’s blowout was against a weak team, but it still might have established Florida as the tournament’s team to beat.
Louisiana-Lafayette 7, Rice 6
The Ragin’ Cajuns were down 6-2 entering the ninth and their decision to start the usual No. 3 guy in their rotation, Wyatt Marks, was looking questionable at best. But after a seemingly harmless mistake -- a dropped strike three -- put the leadoff runner on, the wheels came off for Rice. Two walks, two singles, an error, a walk and a sac fly later, Lafayette was in the lead. And now all of a sudden that decision to throw Marks looks like pure genius, giving the Ragin’ Cajuns their top two arms heading into the winners bracket.
College of Charleston 7, Auburn 6
In terms of pure entertainment, this was probably the best game of the day. This thing had five homers, six lead changes and 11 innings. College Charleston roughed of Auburn ace Cole Lipscomb early, going yard on him three times in the first four innings. It would have been four, but ....
