Astros’ Carlos Correa launches first major league home run

Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

In just his second MLB game, Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa hit his first big league home run on Tuesday night in Houston's 4-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field.

Correa, arguably the top prospect in baseball when he was promoted to the majors on Monday, hit a two-run shot against relief pitcher Zach Duke in the ninth inning and it wasn't a wall-scraper. Correa showed off some impressive power, part of what makes him such an intriguing prospect.

It was just the eighth plate appearance for the 20-year-old, who was 2-for-4 on the day and is 3-for-8 (.375) with three RBI in his two big league games.

The home run wasn't the only major league first for Correa on Tuesday. He also stole second base in the sixth inning for his first career stolen base. Correa is just the third Astros player ever with a home run and steal in a game within his first 10 career games — joining Brian Hunter (1995) and Lance Berkman (1999). Correa is the only one to do it within their first two games.
