LSU skipper Paul Mainieri called his club’s ugly loss to TCU two days ago “maybe the worst game that I’ve had since I’ve been at LSU in nine years.” That comment’s tinged with melodrama, but there’s no doubt that the Tigers’ 10-2 loss on Sunday was at least one of their worst performances of 2015. The defense matched a season-high in errors, Jared Poche didn’t make it out of the fifth inning and one of the most dangerous lineups in college baseball went quiet.

The Frogs smoked LSU over the weekend in Omaha. Now the Tigers get their chance for revenge.

The good news for LSU is that it gets a chance at revenge on Thursday. After the Tigers’ offense bounced back in an elimination game against Cal State Fullerton and the Frogs came up just short in a pitchers’ duel with Vanderbilt, the two clubs find themselves squaring off again in a win-or-go-home showdown. The winner advances to face Vandy on Friday.
After looking mystified against TCU ace Preston Morrison, LSU’s lineup pounded out 15 hits against Fullerton on Tuesday, led by star shortstop Alex Bregman’s 4-for-5 day at the plate.
Logic would dictate that with TCU having already burned through two starters this week, including its ace, they would have an easier go of things at the plate this time around. Nuh uh. The Frogs’ absurdly deep staff gets to turn to Mitchell Traver, who’s 1.60 ERA is even better than Morrison’s. LSU’s staff doesn’t have nearly the same depth, and has opted to give reliever Zac Person just his second start of the season.
Here’s the tune-in info for the game.
