Former Major League Baseball player Darryl Hamilton was found dead Sunday in a suburban home outside of Houston, according to Dale Lezon of the Houston Chronicle. Monica Jordan was also found dead inside the home. Hamilton, 50, had been shot multiple times and Jordan, 44, died from a self-inflicted wound, according to investigators in the Pearland Police Department.

The couple’s 13-month-old son was found unharmed in the home and turned over to Child Protective Services. Police were sent to the home after an emergency call about a disturbance, and when they arrived they found Hamilton and Jordan dead in separate parts of the home. Hamilton was near the entryway, according to the report.

The home was owned by Jordan, but other than that, details are scarce as we wait for more information to come in.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred released a statement following news of Hamilton’s death:

“All of us at Major League Baseball are shocked and saddened by this tragedy. Darryl followed a successful 13-year career on the field by assembling a multifaceted career in our game, working for MLB Advanced Media and in our Baseball Operations Department before moving on to MLB Network. He was a talented and personable individual and we were proud to call him a member of the Baseball Family. On behalf of Major League Baseball, I extend my deepest sympathies to Darryl’s family and his many friends throughout the game.”

Hamilton became an MLB Network analyst in 2013, more than a decade after the end of his playing career. From 1988 to 2001, Hamilton spent time with the Brewers, Rangers, Giants, Rockies and Mets. He batted .291 with 1,333 hits, 707 runs scored and 454 runs batted in over his 13-year career.
