First off, a quick introduction, though if you don’t know what FanDuel is, well, you’re missing out. FanDuel is a site that offers daily fantasy sports games. Participants are given a chance every day to select new players, fill out a lineup and, most importantly, win some cash. If you choose poorly Monday you can come back Tuesday and try again. Easy as that. Click here to enter a $5 FanDuel contest that offers a $10,000 prize today!

As for what we're going to be doing in this space: The goal here will be to direct your attention toward some players who you might not otherwise consider. If you're here and reading this, then you already know that Mike Trout is really good. But when filling out a roster you can't just pick out stars. You'll blow your cap that way and get stuck praying to the baseball gods that a guy like Wilmer Flores actually gets a few hits. No, if you want to win, you have to take advantage of certain matchups -- and in order to do that you have to know where to look. That's what we're here for. Below are three players to target and three to avoid this weekend.

3 players to target

Giancarlo Stanton, OF, Marlins: He's going to be expensive, but he'll also be worth if. For one, he's red hot. Stanton has four home runs in his last seven games and has an OPS of 1.093 over that span. He'll also be in Coors Field this weekend, which is where he did this in 2012.

That ball traveled 494 feet. In 53 career at-bats at Coors Field, Stanton has hit seven home runs and is batting .358/.477/.868. Yes, that's an .868 slugging percentage. As mentioned above, he'll be expensive, but also worth it.

Danny Salazar, P, Indians: The hard-throwing Salazar, a popular breakout candidate last year, has finally put it all together. He's 5-1 with an ERA of 3.79 (a FIP of 3.52), and is striking out 11.7 batters per nine innings while walking just 2.6. On Saturday he'll face the Orioles, a team really struggling on offense. Over the last 30 days Baltimore is sixth in MLB in strikeout rate (22.7) and 26th in runs scored. Salazar, with his impressive array of pitches, should be able to overmatch the team's lineup. He also likely won't cost as much as some of the big-name pitchers who will be on the bump this weekend.

Ruben Tejada, SS, Mets: Don't laugh. Tejada, who was relegated to AAA last season, is making the most of the playing time he's now being given due seemingly every infielder on the Mets being injured. He's hitting .483/.500/.621 over his last seven days and, more importantly, he's going to be in the lineup every day going forward. Also, while those numbers are obviously the result of some luck, they've also come as Tejada has altered his approach at the plate (he's looking to go the other way more frequently now). Simply put: he's red hot and he's cheap.

3 players to avoid

Jered Weaver, P, Angels: Weaver, who takes the mound Friday night, for some reason costs $7,700 in FanDuel. That seems ridiculous for a pitcher with an ERA of 4.08 who's striking out less than five batters per nine innings. Making matters worse are his career numbers against who he'll be facing Friday night in Yankee Stadium. Just check out them, per RotoWire. Ten home runs in 103 at-bats is a problem. So is that .958 OPS. Weaver is a fly ball pitcher facing a bunch of fly ball hitters in a homer-happy ballpark. Stay away. Stay far away.

Jose Bautista, OF, Blue Jays: Bautista remains the fifth-most expensive outfielder in FanDuel despite hitting just .247/.378/.488. He also has only eight home runs and just 32 RBI. Bautista is a dead-pull hitter and Houston likes to employ shifts and has a bunch of ground ball pitchers. There's also that nasty bullpen. Bad combination here.

Nelson Cruz, OF, Marines: Cruz faces the Rays this weekend, and two of the best pitchers in baseball in Jake Odorizzi (Friday) and Chris Archer (Sunday). He's struggled against both of them in his career. He's got just two hits in 13 at-bats against Odorizzi and three hits in 12 at-bats against Archer. None of those have been home runs. Yes, it's not a large sample, but Cruz is not worth the $4,000 gamble (rhyme not intended).

Other notables

The Reds face Padres starter Tyson Ross Friday night. Tyson Ross has allowed a league-leading 21 stolen bases this season. Billy Hamilton plays for the Reds. He's very fast. Play Billy Hamilton Friday night. It's getting repetitive here, but somehow Kolten Wong remains the 11th-most expensive second baseman in FanDuel. This is a guy batting .310/.364/.470 on the season and hitting leadoff for one of the best lineups in baseball. It's been a rough season for Carlos Gomez, but he's riding a six-game hit streak and facing the light tossing Minnesota Twins this weekend. He's also just $3,600.
