Miami Marlins All-Star second baseman Dee Gordon left Saturday night's game against the Cincinnati Reds with a dislocated left thumb, suffered while sliding headfirst into first base on a single in the seventh inning. He will miss the All-Star Game.

Gordon bounced one sharply to first baseman Joey Votto to open the seventh, then slid into first base to avoid a tag and beat pitcher Manny Parra to the bag. In doing so, Gordon injured his thumb and remained on the ground in a lot of pain. Gordon left the game in favor of pinch runner Miguel Rojas.
Gordon made the All-Star team in 2014 with the Los Angeles Dodgers in his first year at second base, and this season, his first in Miami, he was elected to start for the National League at second base.
MLB announced that Colorado Rockies second baseman DJ LeMahieu, who was second to Gordon in the player vote among National League second basemen, will start for the NL in place of Gordon. Replacing Gordon on the NL All-Star roster is Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, who finished fourth in the Final Vote balloting.
The 27-year-old Gordon was 3-for-4 on Saturday and is hitting .338/.359/.413 with 33 stolen bases, and leads the majors with 122 hits.
Gordon suffered a similar injury in 2012 with the Dodgers, hurting his thumb while sliding into third base on a stolen base attempt. Gordon’s injury then was initially termed a dislocated thumb but turned out to be a torn ulnar collateral ligament that caused him to miss six weeks.
