Fantasy baseball advice: MLB FanDuel lineup advice for Tuesday, July 21

As for what we're going to be doing in this space: The goal here will be to direct your attention toward some players who you might not otherwise consider. If you're here and reading this, then you already know that Mike Trout is really good. But when filling out a roster you can't just pick out stars. You'll blow your cap that way and get stuck praying to the baseball gods that a guy like Wilmer Flores actually gets a few hits. No, if you want to win, you have to take advantage of certain matchups -- and in order to do that you have to know where to look. That's what we're here for. Below is the lineup I'll be using for Tuesday, Aug. 11.

Taylor Jungmann, Brewers ($8,400): The 25-year-old right-hander is facing a Cubs lineup that is hitting just .237 against right-handers (second-worst in baseball) and is whiffing in 24.3 percent of those at-bats, the worst mark in MLB. Jungmann has also been pitching extremely well of late. He's made four starts since the All-Star break and in those game has a 2.45 ERA and is striking out more than a batter an inning.

Welington Castillo, Diamondbacks ($3,500): Arizona has the pleasure of facing Phillies batting-practice tosser pitcher David Buchanan and his 7.23 ERA (!) on Tuesday. If you just went with the Diamondbacks on Tuesday you'd still probably win some cash. But if you're looking for the best value buy among Arizona's hitters, Castillo and his red-hot bat are it.

Joey Votto, Reds ($3,600): Have you heard of Colin Rea? Yeah, neither had this author until he started researching for this post. Rea is a 25-year-old right-hander who was selected by the Padres in the 12th round of the 2011 MLB Draft and has never made a major league start. He must have GREAT minor league numbers is probably what you're thinking. Well, um, about those. In six Triple-A starts this season Rea has an ERA of 4.39. He was striking out just 6.75 batters per nine innings while walking more than four. He was lights-out in Double-A (1.08 ERA in 12 starts) but why he's getting called up to the big leagues now is unclear. Because of this you're going to see a few Reds mentioned here. Votto and his .301/.433/.544 batting line against right-handers is an obvious place to start.

Wilmer Flores, Mets ($2,400): Another selection based on the pitcher he'll be opposing. The Rockies send left-hander Chris Rusin (4.66 ERA, 1.61 WHIP) to the hill on Tuesday. Flores is hitting .288/.333/.521 off lefties. Also, when Rusin gets knocked out of the game, and he will, Flores and the rest of the Mets will get to tee off on Colorado's horrendous bullpen.

Todd Frazier, Reds ($2,900): The second of three Reds in this lineup. Frazier has been ice-cold of late, but to get a player of his caliber at this price and one who's facing a no-name rookie, well, it's the type of lotto ticket that's hard to pass up.

Jhonny Peralta, Cardinals ($2,600): The Cardinals face the struggling Jeff Locke on Tuesday. Locke's ERA on the season is 4.31, but since the All-Star Game he's surrendered 14 earned runs in 23 innings of work. Just the type of pitcher the Cardinals, and a professional like Peralta, should be able to destroy.

Mike Trout, Angels ($4,700): You don't need this space to tell you that Mike Trout is a good player to slot into your lineup, so the focus here will be why he's a good play on Tuesday. The reason: White Sox starter Carlos Rodon and his 5.00 ERA. Rodon, a left-hander who right-handers are hitting .312/.414/.491 off of, should be no match for the best player in the game.

J.D. Martinez, Tigers ($3,800): Yordano Ventura is not supposed to be in the major leagues right now. If it weren't for injuries the Royals would have left him in the minors after sending the fiery right-hander down to Triple-A this summer. Injuries, however, messed up those plans and now Ventura (5.29 ERA) is being sent to the hill. J.D. Martinez is hitting .298/.343/.584 off right-handers with 24 home runs. Need we say more?

Billy Hamilton, Reds ($2,500): The last of the Reds. Hamilton can't hit, but if there is a pitcher who he could figure out how to get on-base against it would seem like Colin Rea is it. Also, and more importantly, only one catcher has allowed more stolen bases this season than Padres backstop Derek Norris.
