Anthony Rizzo climbs the tarp, leans into stands for dazzling catch

That can go wrong pretty easily, but Rizzo nailed it.

On Tuesday, Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin climbed the dugout rail as he attempted to make a catch in foul territory. The only problem was he overshot it, and the ball actually landed safely in the field of play while Martin wound up in the dugout.

We don’t know whether Chicago’s Anthony Rizzo saw Martin’s play, but if he did, he learned from the mistake.

Navigating the tarp in foul territory isn’t as easy as it probably looks. Jumping up on one while watching the flight of the ball is an easy way to get injured. Rizzo had no problem, however, and even collected himself to check his footing and safely lean in to make the catch.

That play could have gone wrong a number of times, but instead Rizzo made it look impressively easy.
