The Boston Red Sox have exorcised yet another curse. With their 22-10 drubbing of the Seattle Mariners on Saturday afternoon at Fenway Park, the club won on Ben Affleck's birthday for the first time since 1997.

The Red Sox had lost 15 straight times on Aug. 15, outscored 77-45 in the process.

August 15 has been a bad date for Boston ever since Affleck, a noted Red Sox fan, won an Academy Award with Matt Damon for Best Original Screenplay for Good Will Hunting in 1998. The Red Sox lost 15 consecutive times on Affleck’s birthday since he won that Oscar, with off days on Aug. 15 in both 2008 and 2011.
The last time, before Saturday, that the Red Sox won on Aug. 15 was in 1997, when they beat the Twins 5-4. That was so long ago that David Ortiz was still 18 days away from making his MLB debut. For Minnesota.
Jackie Bradley Jr. was the offensive star for the Red Sox on Saturday with two home runs, three doubles and seven RBI, but just about everyone got involved. Blake Swihart and Xander Bogaerts each had four hits, while Ortiz, Mookie Betts and Brock Holt had three apiece.
It was the second straight offensive outburst for the Red Sox, who scored 15 runs on 21 hits on Friday night as well.
The Red Sox are the first major league team to record as many as 15 runs and 21 hits in back-to-back games since this team did it in 1950.

The 37 runs in the last two games for the Red Sox was one more than their total output in their previous eight games. How do you like them apples?
