Yankees’ Bryan Mitchell suffers nasal fracture after being struck by a line drive

Mitchell has since been released from the hospital.

Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

A scary moment occurred during the second inning of the New York Yankees game on Monday when pitcher Bryan Mitchell was hit in the face by a line drive. Mitchell suffered a small nasal fracture and was later released form the hospital, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

The play happened in the top of the second inning when the Minnesota Twins’ Eduardo Nunez hit a sharp line drive back up the middle. Mitchell attempted to get his glove up to at least deflect the ball, but the ball appeared to strike him in the face, near his left eye. Mitchell went down immediately and stayed in his knees while trainers attended to him. He was bleeding, before placing a towel on his face and walking off the field with trainers.

According to the Yankees, Mitchell was taken to NY-Presbyterian Hospital for a full evaluation. He suffered a small nasal fracture and was released while Yankees doctors will monitor him for concussion symptoms.
