FanDuel lineup advice for the weekend of Sept. 11-13

As for what we're going to be doing in this space: The goal here will be to direct your attention toward some players who you might not otherwise consider. If you're here and reading this, then you already know that Mike Trout is really good. But when filling out a roster you can't just pick out stars. You'll blow your cap that way and get stuck praying to the baseball gods that a guy like Ruben Tejada actually gets a few hits. No, if you want to win, you have to take advantage of certain matchups -- and in order to do that you have to know where to look. That's what we're here for. Below are three players to target and three to avoid for Sept. 11-13.

Madison Bumgarner, P, Giants: On Saturday, the Giants ace gets to take on the impotent lineup of the Padres, a team with just a .301 wOBA against southpaws (the eighth-lowest number in baseball), and striking out in 23 percent of its at-bats against left-handers, the fourth-highest mark in MLB. Those numbers mixed with Bumgarner being Bumgarner make him a player to build your lineup around.

Ryan Braun, OF, Brewers: For one, Braun gets to face two lefties this weekend in Pittsburgh (Jeff Locke on Sunday, Francisco Liriano on Sunday). Given that he's hitting .330/.413/.587 off southpaws this year, that's always a good matchup to try to take advantage of. Making this matchup an even better one: the fact that Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli has allowed 88 stolen bases this season, the most in baseball. Braun has swiped 22 bags this year. Look for him to get a couple more this weekend.

Yoenis Cespedes, OF, Mets: He's going to cost a lot, but right now there's no one hotter in all of baseball. In fact, Cespedes' current streak is something we haven't seen since Manny Ramirez brought his show to L.A. In 36 games with the Mets, Cespedes is hitting .312/.357/.675 with 14 home runs and 36 RBI. The Mets team as a whole is red-hot, but right now Cespedes is doing a great impression of Babe Ruth.

David Price, P, Blue Jays: Why it's so, we can only guess, but throughout his career Price has had trouble whenever he faces the Yankees. In three starts this season against the Bronx Bombers he has an ERA of 5.94 and a WHIP of 1.80. His career ERA against the Yankees is 4.21. The Yankees also strike out in just 19 percent of their at-bats against left-handers, the sixth-lowest number in baseball, and have the third-best wOBA against southpaws. Price faces the Yankees Friday night in Yankee Stadium and is going for $11,900. Stay away.

Carlos Gonzalez, OF, Rockies: The Rockies travel to Seattle this weekend and the spacious grounds of Safeco Field. Gonzalez has been great of late, but his numbers away from Coors Field (.245/.301/.485) show just valuable that high altitude can be to hitters. Gonzalez has also struggled against lefties this season (.198/.234/.322), and will face one this weekend in Mariners hurler Roenis Elias.

Paul Goldschmidt, 1B, Diamondbacks: He's, undoubtedly, one of the best hitters in baseball, but Goldy's also been struggling of late. He has just three hits in his last 18 at-bats and is hitting just .179 in September. Goldschmidt is great but he also has a propensity to go through the occasional rough stretch. This seems like it might be one of them.

The Mets send lefty Jon Niese to the hill on Sunday. Since the All-Star Game, Niese has an ERA of 5.75 and he's surrendered 23 earned runs in his last four starts. Load up on Braves hitters that day. ... Francisco Cervelli's inability to hold opposing runners is mentioned above. That bodes well for Brewers speedster Jean Segura (22 stolen bases) this weekend. ... Chris Sale, who faces the Twins on Sunday, is, obviously, awesome. For some reason, though, Twins second baseman Brian Dozier has had success against him: 11 hits and three home runs in 36 at-bats.
