As for what we're going to be doing in this space: The goal here will be to direct your attention toward some players who you might not otherwise consider. If you're here and reading this, then you already know that Mike Trout is really good. But when filling out a roster you can't just pick out stars. You'll blow your cap that way and get stuck praying to the baseball gods that a guy like Wilmer Flores actually gets a few hits. No, if you want to win, you have to take advantage of certain matchups -- and in order to do that you have to know where to look. That's what we're here for. Below is the lineup I'll be using for Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Pitcher
Michael Wacha, Cardinals ($9,500): You can go with Clayton Kershaw at $13,700 if you want, or you can save about $4,000 and take the Cardinals ace. Here we're going with the latter of the two. Wacha has has given up a total of four earned runs over his past six outings and on Tuesday he faces a Cubs team that whiffs in 24 percent of their at-bats against right-handers, the second-highest mark in baseball.
Catcher
Buster Posey, Giants ($3,500): Always as good a bet as there is at catcher. That he's on a nine-game hitting streak and 12 for 24 in September makes him an even better option.
First Base
Lucas Duda, Mets ($3,600): Duda will return to the Mets starting lineup Tuesday night -- he's been dealing with a back injury -- to face a Nationals team that he dismantled just about a month ago, when he crushed three home runs in two games against them in early August. He'll now be added to a red-hot lineup that's been creating tons of RBI and run opportunities.
Second Base
Logan Forsythe, Rays ($3,400): The first of three right-handed Rays in this lineup. The reason: On Tuesday Tampa faces Tigers left-hander Matt Boyd, owner of an 8.36 ERA. Forsythe has crushed southpaws all year (.306/.381/.627). Tuesday night should be a big one for Rays hitters, and look for Forsythe to be right in the middle of it.
Third Base
Evan Longoria, Rays ($3,000): Similar logic applies here. This season Longoria is hitting 365/.433/.591 off left-handers with seven home runs in 115 at-bats.
Shortstop
Troy Tulowitzki, Blue Jays ($3,500): Another matchup worth exploiting. Tulo and the Blue Jays take on Red Sox lefty Henry Owens Tuesday. Owens has a 5.87 ERA, while Tulowitzki is hitting .354/.400/.552 off of left-handers. As a whole, Toronto's lineup has crushed southpaws all season. That could mean big numbers from the team's star shortstop on this night.
Outfield
Chris Colabello, Blue Jays ($3,000): Yep, also a right-handed Blue Jays hitter. Colabello is hitting .311/.363/.541 off left-handers, and figures to be part of a big offensive night on Tuesday.
Ryan Raburn, Indians ($2,600): Raburn is hitting an insane .321/.403/.597 off left-handers this season, which, given his price, makes him one of the more valuable FanDuel plays of the night. He'll tee off against White Sox hurler Carlos Rodon on Tuesday.
Brandon Guyer, Rays ($2,400): Our final Rays hitter, Guyer earns a spot here due to his .275/.388/.436 batting line against southpaws, with five home runs in 149 at-bats.
