Cubs lead best-of-5 series 1-0

After a low-scoring pitchers’ duel in Game 1, the San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs will try for more runs on Saturday evening in Game 2 of their National League Division Series at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

MLB Network will televise Game 2 of this series, one of two Division Series games exclusively on the network, with Bob Costas, John Smoltz, and Ken Rosenthal on the call.

Friday night was a classic in Chicago, with Jon Lester and Johnny Cueto matching zeroes all night before Javier Baez took Cueto deep with a solo home run in the eighth inning, giving Chicago the 1-0 victory.

After facing the second-best ERA in baseball on Friday in Jon Lester (2.44), the Giants will need to try to score against the best ERA in baseball, with Kyle Hendricks and his 2.13 mark getting the call in Game 2. Hendricks faced the Giants once this season, allowing one run in 5⅓ innings on May 22 but lost in yet another 1-0 contest between these two teams.

Jeff Samardzija gets the call for the Giants, returning to Wrigley Field after spending the first 6½ years of his major league career with the Cubs after getting drafted by Chicago out of Notre Dame in 2006.

“Obviously everything’s a little different when you pitched in one place for so long and then have you to go do it on the other side. But really not worried about that too much,” Samardzija said on Friday. “I’m just excited that I’m getting an opportunity to pitch in a playoff game, which for me they have been few and far between with going in 2008 and then going briefly in 2014.”
