The free agent market this winter was highlighted by closers as well as sluggers. To date, Yoenis Cespedes ($110 million), Aroldis Chapman ($86 million), Dexter Fowler ($82.5 million), Kenley Jansen ($80 million), Ian Desmond ($70 million), Justin Turner ($64 million), Mark Melancon ($62 million) and Edwin Encarnacion ($60 million) have cashed in, while the likes of Mark Trumbo ($37.5 million) and Jose Bautista ($18 million) had to settle for less than anticipated.
