The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim acquired outfielder Cameron Maybin from the Detroit Tigers on Monday in exchange for minor league pitcher Victor Alcantara, the teams announced.

In conjunction with the trade, the Angels exercised Maybin’s 2017 club option, worth $9 million.
Maybin hit .315/.383/.418 with 14 doubles, four home runs and five triples in 94 games for Detroit in 2016, and stole 15 bases in 21 attempts. The right-handed Maybin, who turns 30 in April, has hit .259/.322/.373 in parts of 10 major league seasons with the Tigers, Marlins, Padres and Braves.
Though Maybin has played 753 of his 763 major league games in center field, he figures to slot more in left field with the Halos, since the best player in baseball — Mike Trout — happens to patrol center for Anaheim.
Angels left fielders hit just .204/.271/.313 with 11 home runs in 2016, last in the American League in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and OPS, and 14th out of 15 teams in home runs.
Alcantara turns 24 in April. The Dominican right-hander had a 4.30 ERA in 29 games, including 20 starts for Double-A Arkansas in 2016, with 79 strikeouts and 57 walks in 111 innings.
