Rymer Liriano carted off field, hospitalized after getting hit in face by a pitch

Liriano suffered multiple facial fractures.

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Rymer Liriano was hit in the face by a pitch on Sunday and had to be carted off the field and was hospitalized. The outfielder suffered multiple facial fractures, the team said on Sunday evening.

Liriano was batting in the bottom of the eighth inning when he was hit in the face by a pitch from Dodgers pitcher Matt West. a Liriano immediately fell to the ground, where he was met by team trainers and manager Craig Counsell.

With extensive swelling on the left side of his face and a neck collar put on, Liriano was placed on a cart and taken out of Maryvale Stadium, replaced by pinch runner Jose Cuas.

There wasn’t much news immediately after the game, other than concern over the severity of the injury.

The Brewers acquired Liriano from the Padres on January 28. The 24-year-old outfielder, who is out of options, was battling for an outfield spot with the Brewers, but hitting just .143 (4-for-28) with a double, triple and four walks in Cactus League play.
