The 2016 NCAA Baseball Tournament has thus far been frenetic and unpredictable. Just three of the original eight national seed teams remain: Florida, Miami and Texas Tech. Vegas favorite Louisville was bounced for the second straight year in gut-wrenching fashion. Powerhouse LSU fell while half the country was asleep. Ole Miss and Vanderbilt didn’t even win a game in their host stadiums.
College World Series 2016: Bracket, schedule and scores
IT’S TIME FOR OMAHA.
And following those notable collapses, your new favorite teams Coastal Carolina and UC Santa Barbara are playing in Omaha for the first time in their programs’ histories.
The College World Series begins in earnest Saturday, with the field of eight divided into two groups of four teams. Miami, Oklahoma State, UC Santa Barbara and Arizona make up one bracket, while Florida, Texas Tech, TCU and Coastal Carolina fill out the other. Each group of four will play a two-game elimination mini-tournament -- just like the regional round -- and the two teams left standing will duke it out in a best-of-three series for the college baseball title next weekend.
Omaha, y’all.
