Listen, we know it’s tough to catch up on everything happening in the baseball world each morning. There are all kinds of stories, rumors, game coverage, and Vines of dudes getting hit in the beans every day. Trying to find all of it while on your way to work or sitting at your desk just isn’t easy. It’s okay, though, we’re going to do the heavy lifting for you each morning, and find the things you need to see from within the SB Nation baseball network, as well as from elsewhere. Please hold your applause until the end, or at least until after you subscribe to the newsletter.

It’s been a crazy week for the Mets,Jay and for manager Terry Collins. On Wednesday, Collins called Mets VP of public relations Jay Horwitz a “puppy dog” during a postgame press conference, and then promptly bolted from the room. This was all prompted by Noah Syndergaard leaving his start early due to elbow discomfort, something that Collins hadn’t wanted to disclose, but did after Horowitz continued to push him to talk about it. It was weird and awkward for two Mets employees to be essentially fighting in the middle of a press conference, and Collins apologized the next day, saying that he was “out of line” and “unprofessional.” (Thankfully, Syndergaard’s elbow issue not structural.)

Then early on Saturday, the Mets were scooped on their own call up. Outfielder Brandon Nimmo was supposed to be promoted from Triple-A Las Vegas at the conclusion of Saturday night’s game, and the struggling Michael Conforto was going to be sent down. But a tweet on late Saturday morning from a Wyoming sports editor revealed that Nimmo was to be called up. So according to Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News, the Mets changed their plans and called him up hours earlier than they had planned. But even that tweet didn’t tell the entire story, because Nimmo wasn’t actually in Atlanta several hours before game time. He didn’t arrive in time to play, and so Alejandro De Aza had to start in left field.

And as if that wasn’t enough, the Mets finally did what they were rumored to do for days — they officially signed Jose Reyes. It’s a controversial move for a number of reasons. Reyes is not the player he was when he left the Mets after the 2011 season. And, of course, the most controversial thing about this signing is Reyes’ domestic violence charges, which stemmed from an alleged assault on his wife in Hawaii back in October. The charges were dropped when his wife chose not to cooperate.

Reyes had been suspended for the duration of the legal proceedings under Major League Baseball’s domestic violence policy (which amounted to the entire season thus far), and after the charges were dropped Rob Manfred decided that the time he had been on administrative leave was to be included in giving him a two-month suspension under the new policy. The Rockies designated him for assignment when his rehab assignment ended and he officially became a free agent at 1pm on Saturday. When Reyes makes it to the majors (which he’s expected to), it’s up to Terry Collins to find a place to play him. Another thing to add to Collins’ very full managerial plate.
