MLB Futures Game 2016 live stream: Time, TV schedule, rosters and how to watch online

Jonathan Dyer-USA TODAY Sports

Some of the very best prospects in baseball are in San Diego to take part in the 2016 MLB Futures Game on Sunday evening at Petco Park, the main event on the first of three days of festivities surrounding the All-Star Game.

MLB Network will televise the Futures Game beginning at 7 p.m. ET, with Matt Vasgersian on play-by-play and joined on the broadcast by Mark DeRosa, Jonathan Mayo and Heidi Watney. The game will be simulcast online on MLB.com.

All 30 major league teams are represented on the two teams, with U.S. and World rosters. There are 11 different countries represented on these rosters, including Cuban infielder Yoan Moncada, the Boston Red Sox minor leaguer rated on Friday the top prospect in baseball in Baseball America's midseason top 100.

There are 15 former first-round picks, including the top two selections from the 2015 draft - Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson and Astros shortstop Alex Bregman.

Two of the San Diego Padres' player representatives in the game were players they received in the Craig Kimbrel trade with the Red Sox in November, with infielder Carlos Asuaje and outfielder Manuel Margot on the World roster.

Third baseman Jeimer Candelario was originally on the World team but will skip the Futures Game for the best possible reason. He was called up to the Chicago Cubs on July 3.

With the Padres hosting the All-Star Game this year, a pair of former major league All-Stars currently in the Friars' front office will manage both teams in the Futures Game, with Trevor Hoffman leading the U.S. team and Moises Alou the skipper of the World squad.
