LOS ANGELES — All-Star shortstop Corey Seager missed the National League Championship Series with a back sprain, but he is expected to return to the Los Angeles Dodgers in some capacity for the World Series, which begins Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
Corey Seager expected to return to Dodgers for World Series
Back sprain sidelined Seager during NLCS.

Seager injured his back on a routine slide during Game 3 of the National League Division Series and received an epidural shot the next day. Game 1 of the World Series will be two weeks from that shot.
He has gradually increased baseball activities in recent days and was a full participant in Sunday’s Dodgers workout at Dodger Stadium.
“We’re very optimistic,” manager Dave Roberts said. “Corey really doesn’t want to be denied.”
Seager, who won National League Rookie of the Year and finished third in MVP voting in 2016, hit .295/.375/.479 with 22 home runs and 33 doubles in 2017. he was 3-for-11 with a triple and three walks in the NLDS against Arizona.
Ideally, Seager would be able to play shortstop for the entire series, but with Games 3-5 scheduled for an American League park in Houston, the designated hitter is also a possibility.
“We don’t know whether it’s standing in the infield taking ground balls, or taking swings which affects him more,” Roberts said. “We’re just trying to get him as healthy as we can, and the training staff will make that decision. If he can swing the bat and isn’t compromised, that makes sense.”
