LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers are in search of their first World Series win since 1988, while the Houston Astros are seeking their first World Series win ever. These two teams open up the Fall Classic on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles (7:30 p.m. ET, Fox).

With the Dodgers winning 104 games in 2017 and the Astros winning 101, this is the first World Series in 47 years to feature two teams with 100 wins.

“Personally I thought we were the best team from start to finish, and I thought the Dodgers were the best team in the National League start to finish. So this is going to be a great matchup,” said Game 1 starter Dallas Keuchel. “Pitching staffs, bullpens, pinch-runners, you name it, coaching staffs, it really is top to bottom the two best teams.”

Keuchel gets the start for the Astros. He is 2-1 with a 2.60 ERA in three starts this postseason, with 25 strikeouts and five walks.

Clayton Kershaw starts for the Dodgers, with a 3.63 ERA in three starts this postseason, including winning Thursday’s NLCS Game 5 clincher against the Chicago Cubs.

“I think it meant a lot in Chicago, when we were saying we are going to the World Series. That’s a special thing,” Kershaw said. “But now we’re flipping the switch a little bit, and we’re trying to figure out how to win four games.”

Dodgers vs. Astros news & notes

Corey Seager will return for the Dodgers, after missing the NLCS with a back sprain:

“Every progression has gone smoothly, there have been no setbacks,” Seager said.

Seager took batting practice and got in some simulated at-bats on Monday against Brock Seager, and took ground balls at shortstop as well. He expects to start at shortstop on Tuesday in Game 1, but nothing has been announced just yet.

“It’s not my job to make the lineup,” Seager said. “It’s my job to be ready to do whatever they need me to do.”

Astros manager A.J. Hinch and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts worked together with the Padres in 2011, and are good friends. Richard Justice of MLB.com has more:

When Hinch and Roberts met for breakfast in San Diego last July, their teams were both in first place, and suddenly, the whole thing didn’t seem so farfetched.

“We kind of rooted each other on that we would meet each other in October and fight it out for the World Series,” Hinch said. “Now we’ve got to be careful what we wish for. We have to go up against each other’s teams.”

How short is Jose Altuve, really? A very serious investigation
