After Monday’s tragic mass shooting in Las Vegas, baseball is far from the first thing on many people’s minds around the country. To start the AL Wild Card game in New York Tuesday, the Yankees held a moment of silence in honor of the victims and national anthem performer Aaron Tveit requested the entire crowd sing along with him.
Las Vegas native and Yankees pitcher Chasen Shreve threw out the AL Wild Card game first pitch
The New York reliever honored his hometown after a tragic few days.

Touchingly, the Yankees also had one of their own pitchers throw out the first pitch in honor of Las Vegas. Chasen Shreve, a Vegas native, was included on the wild card game roster but took the mound before the game began to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
The emotion on his face is apparent, as it would be for anybody with their mind on their hometown in a time like this.
It’s a huge stage for Shreve to be a part of, as the Yankees attempted to make it to the ALDS, but nobody would blame him for having his mind split between Yankee Stadium and home.
It’s unusual for a team to have one of their own pitchers throw out a first pitch, but in this case it’s the perfect choice and a nice moment pregame under absolutely awful circumstances back on the West Coast.
