The Cubs’ dazzling duo of Bryzzo struck again in the top of the fourth inning against the Nationals again, with Kris Bryant doubling off Gio Gonzalez before Anthony Rizzo jacked a home run to right field that brought them both home and put the Cubs up 3-1.
A Cubs fan made an amazing one-handed catch on a Rizzo home run, and thankfully it wasn’t fan interference
There was concern it was fan interference, but the home run stood.

It wasn’t the home run that caused a bit of controversy with Washington fans, though (although that wasn’t an enjoyable development or anything), but the possible interference from a fan who caught the home run ball.
The Cubs fan — a fact which did not endear him to the crowd -- in a Bryant jersey made a great one-handed catch over the railing to snag the coveted ball. For a minute, though, it looked as if it might be overturned as fan interference.
However, the fine people who designed Nationals Park smartly did it so that there is a gap between the fan barrier and the outfield wall, to minimize any possible fan interference. After a quick review the home run stood and Cubs fans could celebrate. And we could appreciate the impressive catch without the drawback of controversy around it.
It’s an amazing bare-handed catch before you even factor in that it was over a railing, and it’s pretty amazing that he reeled it in without bobbling the ball at all.
The fan, from Virginia, insists he absolutely did not go over the wall to make the catch, and I believe him without skepticism.
By the time the review was in progress, the fan’s phone was already ringing off the hook, and he was fielding calls with the ball in one hand and his phone in the other. His five minutes of fame look to be going great, especially since the home run stood.
Reports say that Nationals fans booed him and/or the home run review, but he probably doesn’t care about that since that home run put his boys from Chicago up two runs on Washington.
