Yu Darvish allows 5 runs, and is pulled in the 2nd inning for the second start in a row

...Yikes.

For his second start in a row, Yu Darvish failed to make it to the third inning of a World Series game. In a start that unfortunately mirrored Game 3, he was pulled after only 1 23 innings with the Dodgers down 5-0 in a winner-take-all Game 7. His ERA this World Series is 21.60.

Darvish gave up four earned runs off only three hits, including George Springer’s fifth home run of the series, and put his team in a rough hole only two innings into the game. He struck out no one and walked one in his time on the mound.

Yikes.

The Dodgers had to bring in Brandon Morrow to get the final out of the second inning, which means he pitched in all seven games of the series. It’s impressive that he could even throw a ball, since I’m assuming his shoulder is made out of sawdust and Gorilla Glue at this point.

LA will have a lot of work to do to get the lead back, but after Morrow they turned to Clayton Kershaw, who started Game 5 and said he could pitch 27 innings in this game if they asked him to. Reasonably, they’ll only ask him to get through enough innings for the bullpen’s rested arms to take over but you never know.

That’s certainly not the start that the Dodgers wanted or needed out of Darvish, though, and now they’re in a pickle they really didn’t want to be in. Especially when everything is on the line.
