The 2017 Silver Slugger winners were announced, and there are 8 first-time winners

Jose Altuve and Buster Posey lead the pack.

Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

The 2017 Silver Slugger awards were announced, during an hour-long show on MLB Network that I cannot personally imagine watching from start to finish at any point in my life. If you actually watched this entire broadcast let me know, and even then I might not believe you.

For those who didn’t watch a long, protracted, broadcast though (which, again, I’m presuming is just about everybody out there), here’s the full list of winners for both leagues. If anyone’s not familiar with the award, it’s given to the best offensive players at each position in each league and is decided by managers and coaches around the league.

Come to think of it, that’s probably something that they covered on the broadcast nobody watched. Ah, well. Here’s the list, with each player’s credentials as well.

National League

1B - Paul Goldschmidt, Diamondbacks (.297 BA, 36 HR, 120 RBI, .966 OPS)

2B - Daniel Murphy, Nationals (.322 BA, 23 HR, 93 RBI, .928 OPS)

SS - Corey Seager, Dodgers (.295 BA, 22 HR, 77 RBI, .854 OPS)

3B - Nolan Arenado, Rockies (.309 BA, 37 HR, 130 RBI, .959 OPS)

C - Buster Posey, Giants (.320 BA, 12 HR, 67 RBI, .861 OPS)

OF - Charlie Blackmon, Rockies (.331 BA, 37 HR, 104 RBI, 1.000 OPS, 14 SB)

OF - Giancarlo Stanton, Marlins (.281 BA, 59 HR, 132 RBI, 1.007 OPS)

OF - Marcell Ozuna, Marlins (.312 BA, 37 HR, 124 RBI, .924 OPS)

P - Adam Wainwright, Cardinals (.262 BA, 2 HR, 11 RBI, .731 OPS)

American League

1B - Eric Hosmer, Royals (.318 BA, 25 HR, 94 RBI, .882 OPS)

2B - Jose Altuve, Astros (.346 BA, 24 HR, 81 RBI, .957 OPS, 32 SB)

SS - Francisco Lindor, Indians (.273 BA, 33 HR, 89 RBI, .842 OPS)

3B - José Ramírez, Indians (.318 BA, 29 HR, 83 RBI, .957 OPS)

C - Gary Sánchez, Yankees (.278 BA, 33 HR, 90 RBI, .876 OPS)

OF - Justin Upton, Angels (.273 BA, 35 HR, 109 RBI, .901 OPS, 14 SB)

OF - Aaron Judge, Yankees (.284 BA, 52 HR, 114 RBI, 1.049 OPS)

OF - George Springer, Astros (.283 BA, 34 HR, 85 RBI, .889 OPS)

DH - Nelson Cruz, Mariners (.288 BA, 39 HR, 119 RBI, .924 OPS)

Out of this list, there are two players who have now won a Silver Slugger Award four times -- Jose Altuve and Buster Posey — and eight first-time winners — Marcell Ozuna, Eric Hosmer, Aaron Judge, Francisco Lindor, José Ramírez, Gary Sánchez, George Springer and Adam Wainwright.

Almost none of those are surprising. It does feel weird not to see Mike Trout’s name here, but that’s a recurring feeling this season, since while it makes sense that his abbreviated year means he’s not being considered for the usual honors, he’s such a stalwart on these lists that his absence still feels weird.

Other than that, not much to quibble with though. As you were.
