Nolan Arenado hit a three-run home run to lead the United States to an 8-0 win over Canada in the final game of Pool C on Sunday night at Marlins Park in Miami, advancing Team USA to the second round of the 2017 World Baseball Classic.

The Colorado Rockies third baseman took Atlanta Braves right-hander Andrew Albers deep in the second inning, turning a 3-0 U.S. advantage into a rout. It was the only hit in three games for Arenado, who also walked and scored twice on Sunday.

San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey homered and drove in three runs in the win, and Team USA got two doubles apiece from Eric Hosmer and Brandon Crawford.

The win gave Team USA a 2-1 record, good for second place in Pool C behind the undefeated Dominican Republic. The top two teams from each pool advance to the second round of the WBC. For the United States and the Dominican Republic, they will move on to Pool F at Petco Park in San Diego, joined by Puerto Rico (3-0) and one other team from Pool D, pending the result of Mexico vs. Venezuela later Sunday night.

This is the fourth time in four World Baseball Classics the United States has advanced to the second round.

Team USA will start the round-robin second round with a game on Wednesday against the runner-up from Pool D, then will play Puerto Rico on Friday and the Dominican Republic on Saturday. The top two teams from Pool F will advance to the championship round, beginning with the semifinals at Dodger Stadium on March 20-21.
