Puerto Rico beat the United States 6-5 on Saturday night, advancing to the semifinals of the 2017 World Baseball Classic.

Puerto Rico plays Netherlands in Monday’s semifinals in Los Angeles


Three of the final four teams are now known, with Puerto Rico joining Netherlands and Japan in the championship round. Puerto Rico will face Netherlands on Monday night at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles in the first semifinal game.
Puerto Rico is now 5-0 in the WBC this year, including 2-0 in the second round thanks to Pool F wins over both the Dominican Republic (1-1) and Team USA (1-1). Both of those teams play Saturday night in an elimination game for the fourth and final berth in Los Angeles.
Even if Puerto Rico loses its final Pool F game on Saturday afternoon to Venezuela (0-2), at 2-1 it would hold the tiebreaker over both the U.S. and Dominican Republic by beating them both head-to-head.
Puerto Rico never trailed on Friday night, scoring four runs in the first inning against Marcus Stroman. The United States cut the lead to 4-3 thanks to home runs from Buster Posey and Adam Jones, but was never able to tie the score.
Down 6-3 in the ninth inning, Brandon Crawford hit a two-run triple against Edwin Diaz to again pull Team USA within one run, but Josh Harrison struck out swinging to end the game, leaving the tying run 90 feet away.

The winner of United States vs. Dominican Republic on Saturday will face Japan in the second WBC semifinal at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday night.
