LSU baseball held an LSU FOOTBALL spring game before College World Series

LOOK AT THAT PRE-SNAP MOTION.

College baseball ancillary hijinks have carved out a special place for themselves on this here internet, what with the tedium of common rain delays, the attendant blank spaces requisite to a desultory sport, and the bright imaginations of the sports’ players. The No. 4 LSU Tigers trade in said fun times, and they appear happy and loose before their highly touted Monday night matchup with No. 1 overall national seed, Oregon State.

So loose that they staged a mock spring football game before first pitch at Omaha’s TD Ameritrade ballpark. Here are the boys going out of the shotgun.

Tigers shortstop Kramer Robertson takes over quarterbacking duties and mimics college quarterbacks’ leg lift to ready the center pre-snap. The leg lift also appears to signal right fielder and big bat Greg Deichmann into motion, as he trots from the backfield out to the weak side receiver spot. The Tigers’ center, Antoine Duplantis, should also be hailed for getting off a clean snap. Well done.

As the play unfolds, Robertson pump fakes to Deichmann over the top — a perfectly viable option, given Deichmann’s speed as a downfield threat — but ends up handing off to second baseman Cole Freeman, who runs a counter around the left side for a sizable gain. All told, not bad execution from the diamond Tigers, who should perhaps get in touch with LSU’s football coach, Ed Orgeron.
