In a trade that comes right at the deadline, the Tampa Bay Rays are reportedly sending infielder Tim Beckham to Baltimore for minor league right-hander Tobias Myers. Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times was the first to report the trade.

Beckham is batting .259 with 12 homers this season, bringing 36 runners around to home in the process. It’s his best offensive output of his career so far, minimum 10 plate appearances in the league.

After acquiring Lucas Duda, who will most likely slot in at DH for the time being, and with the infield already full for Tampa Bay, Beckham didn’t have as much of a role with the Rays any longer. Considering that his role was limited in the first place the past few seasons, this outcome makes sense.

Myers was selected sixth by Baltimore in last year’s draft, and he’s putting up a 3.94 ERA this season for the Aberdeen IronBirds.

It’s a mostly low-stakes trade in a day full of larger swaps, but useful for both teams as it stands.
