After dealing with a similar problem early in the month of August, Max Scherzer was once again scratched from a start with neck issues. The latest issue, which he compared to what he experienced a few weeks back, is now occurring on the opposite side of his neck. The team has also placed him on the 10-day disabled list.
Max Scherzer goes to the 10-day DL after experiencing further neck issues
Scherzer was scratched from this start and Nationals manager Dusty Baker is “concerned.”

Scherzer, who is currently leading the pack in the NL Cy Young race, leads the league in strikeouts with 220 and is sporting a 0.85 WHIP and 193 ERA+, second only to Clayton Kershaw (at 205) in the latter category.
Nationals manager Dusty Baker isn’t overly optimistic about the situation, but acknowledges that there’s only so much he can do. Baker told reporters before the game he has “concern” but that “worrying is not going to change it.”
He continued:
“Once you know a problem, then you have to try to find a solution. If we had a solution, we’d have found it already. But this just came up. Again, we’re just trying to find a solution for what’s causing it, so it doesn’t happen again.”
With Stephen Strasburg just coming off of the disabled list this weekend and the rest of the DL filling up, Washington is definitely hoping this doesn’t happen again and that it really is as easy as a tight neck or just sleeping weirdly.
With it occurring more than once, though, and considering it has switched sides after it was supposedly resolved, means things might be dragged out longer than ideal for the team’s rotation.
