On Thursday, Eduardo Nunez attempted to put down a bunt against CC Sabathia. Sabathia, who recently returned from a knee injury, took issue with the Sox attempting to exploit his assumed weakness by bunting instead of just hitting the ball like professionals.
The Yankees got their knickers in a twist about Eduardo Nunez bunting, so he hit a home run instead
Be careful what you wish for!

It wasn’t the first time the Sox did this, with Andrew Benintendi doing it in the last series the two teams faced each other. So there was a precipitating event that made this attempt more insulting to Sabathia, apparently.
I’m not going to fully recap the whole thing because it’s more or less ridiculous, but this game is also more or less ridiculous a lot of the time so you can read about the complete drama here if you’d like.
As of Friday afternoon, both teams were still at odds with Sabathia and the Yankees considering it poor form and the Red Sox saying whooooo cares we’re going to bunt as much as we damn well please, we want to win the game this is baseball in September.
On Friday (less than 24 hours after the drama began), Eduardo Nunez hit a go-ahead two-run shot against that same Yankees team. Well, it wasn’t bunting!
Seems like the Yankees might want to be careful what they wish for, and what they’re fighting over, in the future. Nunez was just following instructions after all.
They got all out of sorts about bunting so he didn’t bunt. The Yankees are currently losing 2-1.
