Now, don’t get me wrong. Mookie Betts’ season hasn’t exactly been bad. Just not as great as everyone collectively hoped it would be, and certainly not as consistent as it could have been.
Mookie Betts is lighting up the A’s with multiple home runs and 6 RBI so far
With two home runs and a triple, Betts’ night is on fire.

But if there’s a time for a player to start snapping out of an iffy period of their season, it’s September.
Betts did just that on Tuesday night against the A’s, with a two-run triple, a two-run homer, and then just for good measure another two-run homer. All in all, he has scored six of the Sox’s 11 total runs as of the end of the sixth inning, and has hit home runs a combined distance of 845 feet.
During his successful night, he also became the first Red Sox player ever to have a 20/20 season two years in a row. His two home runs during this game also put him just two games away from tying Jim Rice for Red Sox player to have the most multi-home run games before they turn 25. Not too shabby!
Betts is now hitting .300/.440/.550 in the last week with an OPS of .990, which compared to his August line of .250/.357/.417 is exactly the direction he needs to be heading to help the Sox.
With a few weeks still left to go of September baseball, this is a good sign for Boston as they will count on Mookie’s bat to push them forward in the postseason. They don’t have a lot of home run hitters this season, so it’s always nice when one of the people who can do so starts hitting them reliably again.
Maybe it’s just because he’s hitting against the A’s, but maybe the slump is behind him for good this season.
