Scooter Gennett is the first player since Lou Gehrig to hit 4 grand slams and have a 4-HR game in one season

Nice company to be in!

The Reds couldn’t hang on to win, but Scooter Gennett made history on Friday night against the Red Sox by becoming one of only two players ever to have four grand slams in a season as well as a four-home run game.

The only other player in baseball history to do that is Yankees legend Lou Gehrig.

Impressively, Gennett has more home runs this season than any Red Sox player and four more grand slams (since the Sox are sitting at none). With his grand slam Friday, Gennett set a Reds franchise record for a single season and put himself at the top of the list of all players this year.

He’s also the first player of any team to hit four or more grand slams in a single season in eight years. Albert Pujols hit five all the way back in 2009. Which seems like a millennium ago for Pujols’ career, but that’s a different story.

The Reds won’t make the playoffs this year, but Gennett is only 27 years old so who knows how much history he could make over the next few seasons? Joey Votto will only be around for so long, so Cincinnati is probably hoping Gennett maintains this love of hitting grand slams for years to come.
