The New York Yankees are back in the American League playoffs, clinching a postseason berth with a 5-1 win on Saturday afternoon over the Toronto Blue Jays.
New York Yankees clinch playoff berth
New York is back in postseason for first time since 2015

New York still has designs on the American League East title, trailing the Boston Red Sox by four games with eight games remaining. But at the very least the Yankees have secured a Wild Card spot. At the moment, they are in first Wild Card position in the AL with a six-game lead over the Minnesota Twins.
The American League Wild Card Game is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 3, and will be televised by ESPN.
New York trailed 1-0 in Toronto on Saturday when Greg Bird hit a three-run home run to put the Yankees in front. Todd Frazier added a solo shot in the eighth.
That was plenty of run support for Sonny Gray, who allowed one run in six innings with four strikeouts. Gray has a 3.12 ERA in 10 starts since the Yankees acquired him from the Oakland Athletics at the trade deadline, with 57 strikeouts in 60⅔ innings.
Four of the five AL playoff teams are set, with New York and Boston joined by a pair of division winners, the Cleveland Indians and Houston Astros.
This is the second playoff berth in the last five years for the Yankees, who lost the AL Wild Card Game in 2015.
