The bad news for Washington was that this hit by Michael A. Taylor was probably only good for a single, or a double at best if the errors in the outfield stopped at one. The good news is that the Phillies kept messing up trying to get Taylor out so it was actually an inside-the-park grand slam!

It still counts though!

Taylor’s grand slam could have been caught in the outfield, if Odubel Herrera didn’t misread it and miss the easy catch.
By the time he got hold of the ball and went to get it back to home plate runs had already scored, and then things got worse, with a sloppy center field cutoff throw and nobody backing up home plate when the throw finally got there so Taylor came across without any difficulty.
You can see the full sequence here:
It was Taylor’s 15th home run of the season, but the game would be tied as of the fifth inning if it weren’t for the sloppiness on those plays. Instead the Nationals are up 7-3.
Maybe the Phillies should go over cutoffs and backing up plays at some point this weekend in their spare time.
