Lance Lynn, one of the top pitching prizes this offseason, is reportedly signing a one-year, $12 million million contract with the Minnesota Twins, according to Jon Morosi of MLB.com. The deal, which is pending a physical, has an additional $2 million in performance bonuses as well.
Lance Lynn reportedly signs with Twins for 1 year, $12 million
Another top pitcher is off the board.

Our own Grant Brisbee ranked Lynn 8th in his offseason free agent rankings back in November, before the offseason came to a screeching halt and signings became rarer than a Loch Ness Monster sighting.
Lynn started 31 games in 2017, going 12-11 with a 3.43 ERA but a 4.82 FIP. It was his return to the mound after missing all of 2016 after undergoing Tommy John surgery. In 186.1 innings pitched he allowed 27 home runs, more than double what he allowed in 2015 in a similar amount of innings, but put up a 1.229 WHIP, more than a point lower than his last full season on the mound.
If he continues to bounce back in 2018 this signing could work out exactly as the Twins hope for the money their shelling out, but his FIP last season is at least a little concerning if it doesn’t end up being an anomaly. Especially when you consider that he’ll turn 31 in May.
Minnesota, who surprised the baseball world by winning a wild card spot in 2017 after losing 103 games the year before, this offseason also traded for Jake Odorizzi and signed free agent Michael Pineda, the latter recovering from Tommy John surgery and likely available after the All-Star break.
The Twins will likely also be without Ervin Santana for the first few weeks of the regular season after the right-hander underwent surgery on his right middle finger in February.
Lynn was tied to multiple teams this offseason, but his prospects slimmed down as the Cubs signed Yu Darvish and the Astros traded for Gerrit Cole.
