It’s been a pretty good couple days for Major League Baseball pitcher Derek Holland. First he was tabbed as a member of the San Francisco Giants’ starting rotation. Then he proved he does one of the world’s best Kermit the Frog impersonations.

And it was a pretty spot-on impression.
Holland had the chance to bust out his noble amphibian voice during a mid-game interview at AT&T Park. True to his cold-blooded nature, he used his time to complain about the Bay Area’s plunging temperatures.
Holland was an inexpensive free agent addition in San Francisco this offseason. The 31-year-old signed a one-year, $1.75 million deal with the club after being released by the White Sox in 2017. Before that, he was an intriguing but inconsistent prospect with the Rangers, where he spent eight seasons. He’s been solid this spring, posting a 4.05 ERA but also striking out 23 batters in 20 innings to keep his role as a starter to begin the season.
But Holland brings more than just an innings-eater with a reliable four-seam fastball to a roster. He also brings a tremendous Muppets voice to the locker room, and you can’t put a price on those intangibles. Plus it’s an even year, and that probably means the Giants are going to win the World Series, as improbable as that may seem, before turning the mic over to Derek-Holland-the-frog for some impromptu victory parade commentary.
