The Royals’ Monday night game against the Blue Jays was postponed, thanks to some falling ice from Toronto’s CN Tower that damaged the Rogers Centre’s roof. But on Sunday, the Royals apparently experienced another ice-related situation that could have ended a lot worse than it did.

According to The Athletic’s Rustin Dodd and CBC’s Tony Smyth, ice from the front bus in the Royals’ tandem broke free from the roof and hit the second bus’ windshield, badly damaging it.

Kansas City reliever Blaine Boyer reportedly helped keep the bus under control after the driver was hit by shards of glass from the impact. The driver will recover from those injuries, and Boyer later gave him all the credit for slowing the bus down and keeping everyone on board safe.

“He was a stud … That guy Fred was a trouper. He had shards in his face, and he was locked in on trying to get the bus slowed down.

Pictures of the bus show how much worse the incident could have ended if Boyer hadn’t helped, or if the driver was more badly hurt by the glass, or if luck had gone another way.

Thankfully all of the players were uninjured and the driver only suffered minor injuries from the glass. This is a genuinely scary situation that everyone is lucky was able to be brought under control without further incident.
