Tim Tebow homers in his first at-bat in Double-A

Mets outfielder has a knack for making a first impression

If Tim Tebow ever does make the major leagues all eyes will be on his very first at-bat, if his first two minor league openers are any indication. The former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback made a strong impression in his first at-bat in Double-A on Thursday.

In his first taste of Eastern League pitching, Tebow hit a three-run home run in the first inning against Red Sox minor league right-hander Teddy Stankiewicz, giving the Binghamton Rumble Ponies a 5-0 lead.

If this sounds familiar, it’s because Tebow also hit a home run in his first at-bat with Class-A Columbia in 2017. This is becoming a habit.

Tebow in his first minor league season last year hit .226/.309/.347 between both Class-A levels in the Mets system. Now 30, Tebow was just 1-for-18 (.056) with 11 strikeouts in the Grapefruit League as a non-roster invitee in New York’s spring camp.

He might be more sideshow than actual prospect but Tebow does move the needle, and moments like this home run are still kind of cool.
