Bryce Harper asked people to imagine a Capitals vs. Golden Knights Stanley Cup Final. LOL.

No. Just no.

Bryce Harper is a fan of two hockey teams at the moment. The Washington Capitals, because that’s the hockey team belonging to the city where he has played his entire career, and the Vegas Golden Knights, because they are the team that finally belong to the city where he grew up.

It’s one of the few cases where ardently supporting two teams in the same sport is totally fine and actually encouraged. I appreciate this and support Harper’s fandom.

The optimist that he is, Harper got excited about both teams’ playoff success at this point — they’re both in the second round and looking good — and tweeted out how #epic it would be for both of his rooting interests to meet each other in the Stanley Cup Final. BUT.

Oh, Harper. Oh you sweet summer child. Just no.

The only thing more actively painful than the Nationals’ own postseason experience is the Capitals’ postseason experience. This is a story that has happened before and will happen again, time is a flat circle, etc.

A piece of good news here is that the Knights certainly seem to have it in them to make the Final, even if they don’t end up winning. That outcome being more likely than an established team having a believable chance to make it would be surprising with any other team comparison besides Washington.

Hold on to that Golden Knights enthusiasm, Harper. They’re doing amazing and continue to surprise. Only disappointment will come from the other side.
