Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta had one of the best major league debuts in recent memory on Sunday afternoon, striking out 13 and taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning at Coors Field in a domination of the Colorado Rockies.

Peralta walked a pair in the third inning and with a Brewers fielding error saw himself in a bases-loaded jam, but was able to scape. He retired eight in a row until David Dahl singled to center field for Colorado’s first hit of the game.
After striking out Charlie Blackmon for a second time, Peralta was removed with two outs in the sixth inning at 98 pitches, with a 7-0 lead.
He’s just the fifth major league pitcher ever with at least 13 strikeouts in his major league debut, and the first since Stephen Strasburg fanned 14 in 2010.
The 13 strikeouts are the most by a Brewers rookie, in any game, let alone a debut:
Peralta had a 3.63 ERA in seven starts in Triple-A Colorado Springs, and led the Pacific Coast League in strikeouts (46) and wins (five). He was rated the ninth-best prospect in Milwaukee’s system before the season. Three weeks shy of his 22nd birthday, Peralta is the youngest Brewers starter since Yovani Gallardo in 2007.
What made Peralta’s debut even more memorable is that his parents were able to make the trip to Denver from their home in the Dominican Republic. On Mothers Day, Peralta’s mother was understandably emotional about her son’s debut.
