Rays top prospect Willy Adames goes yard in his 2nd MLB at bat

Off of Chris Sale, too!

Just one day after extremely young Nationals prospect Juan Soto hit a home run on the very first pitch he saw in the major leagues, Rays top prospect Willy Adames followed suit with a home run in his second at bat after being called up to the show.

Adames hit his first career dinger off of Red Sox ace Chris Sale, which is a feat for a player with many major league reps under his belt, nonetheless a green rookie just after being called up.

What a smooth, confident swing that is too. Adames didn’t look shaky or nervous at all in his first few trips to the plate, and a home run is proof he felt more than comfortable facing off with one of the best pitchers in the league.

Rays staffers were in the Tropicana Field stands for quite a while making a deal with the fan who caught the ball, but in the end they were successful and Adames will be able to go home with his meaningful souvenir.

He was only called up because Joey Wendle is away from the team for a few days for paternity leave, so this might be a short trip up for Adames. If he keeps doing that at the plate he might just be able to extend his time with the Rays. Regardless, not a bad start.
