The vet who assisted the Detroit Tigers’ Rally Goose got to throw out the first pitch

Meanwhile, the Tigers are having a ton of fun with this goose thing.

Last night, a goose was flying around Comerica Park during a rain delay between the Tigers and Angels, after which Detroit scored five runs and won the game. So now, obviously, it’s a Rally Goose. All hail Rally Goose.

During his mid-game flight the goose smashed right into a video board and fell into the seats, complete with a puff of feathers and it popping back up looking dazed like it was an old episode of Looney Tunes.

Thankfully, a local vet was able to get down to the area where the goose landed, and picked him up and took him to safety. Which is, currently, MSU’s wildlife ward for the next day or so until they make sure it is truly OK.

The vet, Dr. Catherine Roach, got a bucket of swag and the chance to throw out of the first pitch before Wednesday’s final game against the Angels.

Since the goose is safe and sound, the Tigers also used this opportunity to get those jokes off. Because it’s not a true “animal on a baseball field” moment if we don’t get some good goofs out of it, is it? Their game notes for Thursday had more goose and bird puns than seem possible, all of them equal parts dad-level embarrassing and extremely good.

Among them are “joining the flock,” “take a gander,” and “getting tweet-ment”.

Then, the Tigers got a replica Canada goose and brought it to the both the clubhouse before Thursday’s game and into the dugout during the game. That goose is family now.

The Blue Jays also got their jokes in, as they start a series in Detroit on Friday.

As far as baseball animals go, this goose’s 24 hours of fame has been pretty fun so far. Long live Rally Goose (or, as long as a goose’s average lifespan usually is.)
