On Tuesday, a raccoon became an internet sensation after he decided to climb to the 23rd floor of the UBS building in St. Paul, Minnesota. After hours of tracking the raccoon as it climbed ever higher, laterally a few times, anyone watching the live stream finally got to see the raccoon descend to safety. Phew!
The St. Paul Saints changed their name to the Raccoons in honor of #MPRRaccoon
At least temporarily.

In honor of the raccoon’s sensational heroics (“heroics”?) the St. Paul Saints, an independent baseball team, temporarily changed their name to the St. Paul Raccoons.
They even changed their avatar to a raccoon.
It’s unlikely that that’s a photo of the actual St. Paul raccoon, but we can’t confirm either way so you’re free to believe whatever you want. As far as cutesy name changes in response to viral moments goes, this is a fun one if also predictable.
It’s not like they did it because raccoons are inherently cute and cuddly or anything either. The marketing earns here are obvious yet short-lived.
