Dodgers head toward break atop 2019 World Series odds

The Los Angeles Dodgers lead the pack of contenders on the World Series odds as Major League Baseball’s All-Star break approaches.

The Los Angeles Dodgers became the first team to reach 50 wins this season with a record of 50-25 through their first 75 games. The Dodgers hope to keep things rolling as the first half of the season comes to a close next week.

Los Angeles is a +275 favorite on the odds to win the World Series in 2019 at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. In addition to having the best record in baseball, the Dodgers also entered Thursday’s action with the best run differential in the majors at +126. Led by Hyun-Jin Ryu, Walker Buehler and Clayton Kershaw, the Dodgers have the best starting staff in the league this season as the team’s starters have combined for a fantastic 2.72 ERA.

If Los Angeles can acquire some bullpen help at the deadline, this could finally be the year that they get over the hump in the World Series.

Of course, the Dodgers may find the Houston Astros (+340 to win the World Series) in their way again as they did in 2017. Houston ranks fourth in the MLB in team ERA at 3.58 and its current place as the 11th best offense in baseball is likely to improve when the team gets healthy. On paper, this Astros roster looks like it could be the team to beat when healthy, and an easy trip to a division title in the AL West doesn’t hurt.

The New York Yankees (+600) have also been riddled with injuries this season, but they’ve managed to stay in the lead in the AL East over the Tampa Bay Rays (+1500) and the Boston Red Sox (+1500). Adding the AL leader in home runs in Edwin Encarnacion in a trade with the Seattle Mariners seems unfair with Giancarlo Stanton just returning and Aaron Judge following shortly. The Bronx Bombers should have no trouble living up to their nickname as the season continues

Other top contenders to win the World Series this season include the Atlanta Braves (+800), Minnesota Twins (+800), Chicago Cubs (+1400), Philadelphia Phillies (+1600), Milwaukee Brewers (+1800), St. Louis Cardinals (+2500), and Cleveland Indians (+3000).

Don’t sleep on the Twins; they’ve certainly looked the part of a legitimate contender with the best offense in baseball averaging 5.82 runs per game and a starting pitching staff that ranks third best in the league with a 3.58 ERA.
