Seattle Sounders vs. Real Salt Lake, 2012 MLS: 10-man Seattle holds on for draw with Salt Lake

The Sounders played with 10 men for an hour, but still manage to split the points with RSL in Seattle.

The Seattle Sounders entered Wednesday in search of a win, hoping to make up the three points they trailed Real Salt Lake by, but after going down a man in the 30th minute, a draw seemed like a marvelous result and that is exactly what they got. They held on for a 0-0 draw at CenturyLink Field that doesn't get them any closer to home-field advantage in the playoffs, but is a pretty fantastic result considering the circumstances.

Zach Scott earned his first yellow card in the 10th minute when he brought down a streaking Fabian Espindola, then his second at the half-hour mark when he clumsily bundled over Javier Morales. Scott didn't get his money's worth for either foul, but both were yellow card offenses and Ricardo Salazar sent him off for them.

Despite going down a man, the Sounders did well to hold RSL off. Jeff Parke was especially excellent in keeping Salt Lake from generating many chances of note despite the visitors having the lion's share of the possession. Meanwhile, Seattle got forward when the opportunity presented itself and actually looked the better side for most of the match despite playing with 10 men.

Salt Lake finally did turn their possession into chances at goal late in the match, but Michael Gspurning was there to deny them. Sebastian Velasquez came off of the bench and sparked the visitors. He helped create three good looks at goal, but Gspurning made three fine saves and Seattle had themselves an impressive point.
