Chris Wondolowksi scored a hat trick to move within two goals of Roy Lassiter's MLS record with two games remaining as the San Jose Earthquakes beat the Colorado Rapids 4-1 on Saturday. The Earthquakes moved to 64 points, six points ahead of Sporting Kansas City, who still has three games remaining.

The big story was Wondolowski, though. The Earthquakes forward now has 25 goals, more goals than any player in MLS since Mamadou Diallo scored 26 for the Tampa Bay Mutiny in 2000. Wondolowski also has 59 goals in his past three years, the highest three-year total in MLS history.
None of Wondolowski's goals were particularly pretty. His first came when he deflected an Alan Gordon cross off his chest. His second came off a shot that deflected off a defender. The final one came on a nice entry pass from Sam Cronin on which Wondolowski was able to sneak behind the defense and get a one-on-one chance with Matt Perkins. Wondolowski also set up Marvin Chavez's opening goal.
