DC United vs. Houston Dynamo, MLS Cup Playoffs: Dynamo qualify for 4th final

The Dynamo settle for a 1-1 tie with D.C. United in the second leg and win 4-2 on aggregate.

The Houston Dynamo are heading back to the MLS Cup finals. On the strength of a 1-1 tie with D.C. United in the second leg of the Eastern Conference finals on Sunday, the Dynamo advanced to their fourth final in seven years by winning 4-2 on aggregate.

United at least managed to make it a little interesting. After surrendering the first goal of the second leg on Oscar Boniek Garcia's goal, DC got the deficit back to two on Branko Boskovic's 83rd minute goal. United had a couple decent looks to get even closer, but Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall was more than up to the task each time.

United coach Ben Olsen didn’t leave many bullets in the chamber, playing Dwayne DeRosario the final 28 minutes and Hamdi Salihi 33 minutes.

The Dynamo had seemingly put the match away in the 34th minute when Garcia roofed a feed from Brad Davis. Garcia was allowed to streak into the penalty area completely unmarked, where Davis slipped a nifty pass to the Honduran with the outside of his left foot to set up the shot from about 6 yards out.

Macoumba Kandji had a couple chances to extend the Dynamo's lead, but failed to convert either of his 1-v-1 opportunities. The second of those came just a few minutes before Boskovic's goal when Bill Hamid came up with the save.

The Dynamo will now travel to either Los Angeles or Seattle for the MLS Cup final on Dec. 1. The Galaxy currently have a three-goal lead over the Sounders, heading into Sunday’s second leg.
